Santa Barbara Hikes

Arroyo Burro to the Santa Ynez River Directions

Arroyo Burro to the Santa Ynez River Directions

From the Mission, corner of Laguna and Los Olivos Street in Santa Barbara...

Get on US 101 going northbound by taking Laguna St. to Mission St. (toward the ocean).

Turn right on Mission St.

Follow Mission St. to the freeway and take US 101 north.

Exit the freeway on 154/Cachuma Lake/State St. exit. Follow the signs to 154.

Head up 154 for 7.7 miles.

At the crest of the San Marcos Pass, turn right at East Camino Cielo Road. This can be easy to miss, so as soon as the road has two lanes in your direction, stay in the right land and take the first right turn at the crest.

Drive 6.1 miles on East Camino Cielo, headed East. The parking area is at the shooting range where there is a grassy hillside, or potrero. The view of the ocean and the San Rafael mountains is minimal here, but you can see both if you try. You can tell it's the shooting range because there is a lot of garbage and there may be signs saying to use cardboard targets and pack out your trash. Of course, nobody does this.

The area is not improved so an adventure pass is not needed.

You will begin the hike headed toward the gun range.

(About 40 minute drive)
